Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers report they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then located numerous other marked vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; officials are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they stated.
City officials announced they were attempting "to solve the case" and have requested to the residents for information.
A senior representative stated the vandalism left him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
